The Dell d630 battery XPS 14z laptop is an attractive looking and compact device that is likely to appeal to many people in the professional market and we thought we’d take a look at how this notebook stands up. It looks as though it should be a popular addition to Dell’s laptop lineup and will give good performance so read on for more about the 14z.
Appearance-wise the XPS 14z has an aluminum top and bottom and is only 23mm thick, quite MacBook pro-like. Cleverly it features a 14-inch HD WLED True-Life display on a 13-inch chassis, similar to the Asus A47 laptop that we looked at yesterday, with resolution of 1366×768 offering bright colorful images. A review from Stuff looked at the XPS 14z laptop configured to a Core i7-2460M 2.8GHz processor and Nvidia GeForce 520M GT graphics and other inclusions were 4GB of memory, 750GB hard drive and a 1.3-megapixel webcam.
One neat touch noted was a button on the side of the device, which illuminates 4 lights showing the battery status. The XPS 14z has an eight-cell Ion battery giving around 6 hours of mixed use. There’s also one USB 2.0 port, one USB 3.0 port, an HDMI out port, Ethernet port, Firewire connection, SD card reader and slot-loading DVD drive as well as headphone and microphone jacks. Dimensions of the XPS 14z are 23mm x 335mm x 234mm. The keyboard was noted to be responsive with a good feel but one criticism was the lack of a removable Dell e1405 battery, a pain when it finally gives up the ghost. Another niggle was that the laptop gets rather hot and long periods of use will certainly heat up your nether regions!
Another review here` also noted the warm areas although pointed out that Dell has implemented a pretty good heat disposal system. Plus points were noted as the display, placement of sockets, backlit keyboard and the quietness of the device while negative points included those warm spots and only having two USB ports.
