Amazon is expected to launch Kindle Fire 2 on September 6
This news comes about after Jeff Bezos’ firm sent out invitations to members of the press, asking for them to attend an Amazon press conference being held at an airport hanger in Santa Monica, California on September 6.
No further details were released, but given that the event is being organized by the firm’s Kindle division, a tablet looks the most likely bet. A September launch certainly ties in with the recent rumors, while Barnes & Noble recently cut the price of its 8GB and 16GB Nook Tablets, presumably in the knowledge that a new Kindle Fire is coming to market.
The Kindle Fire 2 will reportedly be thinner and have a better display (1280 x 800 resolution) than its predecessor (1024 x 600). The new model is also expected to have a camera for the first time, a faster chip, improved graphics and an updated version of Android, as well as a price tag of $199. The original Kindle Fire will drop to $149, according to sources.
The original Kindle Fire launched in September of last year, and quickly jumped up to #2 place in the tablet market, behind Apple. However, the arrival of Google’s Nexus 7 has seen sales taper off in more recent times, say market researchers.
